organic gate

8 meters long by 2 meters high

located in Orberstrasse 57, Frankfurt Am Main, Germany

I created this organic artwork to replace the main gate of the entrance to the ‘Protagon Performing Arts’ venue in Frankfurt am Main.
With steel sheets welded onto a lightweight structure, which is built on a solid base capable of supporting the weight of a gate of this size.
Each piece of this monumental artwork, including all mechanisms, has been designed to match aesthetically and functionally, creating a unique, imaginative experience for a large number of residents and visitors.

Creating a work at the entrance, representing the vibrant energy of this place, was both a pleasure and a challenge, largely inspired by the artistic work that comes to life here.
Drama, movement, life and connection with nature are the themes that inspired me and guided my research.

As it fits in between my works produced in 2022 and 2024 ( Organic “fence” and Organic “fence” . part 2 ) I have also designed it in a more thoughtful way, with a more accomplished reflection on the stages of production and on the overall aesthetic.

One of the challenges was to create a piece of work within a limited budget and timeframe, hence the use of sheet metal on the outside of the gate only, which gives a clear view of the compositional stages on the other side.

i created the gate from row steel bars, profiles and sheets and accelerated the oxydating process of the new sheets to reach the right texture.

As written above, all mechanical part is designed and created by me from scratch. this process offers the opportunity to develop handles and opening/closing systems adapted both to the needs of this venue open to the public and to the aesthetics of the project as a whole.

The search for dynamic curves and the use of sheets in concave and convex shapes are the most important directions in this work

Let’s work together…
